Time: 8:30 a.m.
Location: Miami University Middletown, 142 Johnson Hall
Background
A significant health divide within Middletown’s neighborhoods has ignited a dynamic partnership between the Safety Council of Southwestern Ohio and the City of Middletown Health Department. Recent health data analysis uncovered a stark life expectancy gap of 12.5 years for residents in specific neighborhoods compared to those residing elsewhere. This revelation, alongside education, crime, and disease discrepancies, compelled a unified response.
The OHIZ Project:
Catalyzed by the glaring disparities, the collaborative alliance successfully secured funding from the Ohio Department of Health to initiate the Ohio Improvement Zone (OHIZ) project. OHIZ focuses on empowering community residents to proactively lead change by addressing the root causes of health inequities and shaping programs, policies, and practices to drive substantial improvements in health outcomes.
